more of Mr. McKay (it's about time!)

McKay and I are sitting at my parents' kitchen table. He sneezes, twice. I was spacing out and didn't acknowledge his sneezes.
McKay: "Can you say "Bless you?"'
Me (laughing): "Bless you!"
McKay: (giggles) "Thanks!"

McKay was fussing about something and won't coherently tell me what was wrong. I asked, "What's your issue?" He responded, "I have a issue, ya!"

Me: "Do you want me to scamble you an egg for breakfast?"
McKay: "No."
Me: "Do you want cereal?"
McKay: "No..... I want roast beef."

McKay: "Are you going to time out, Babu?"

McKay hands me cookie a cutter and says, "Sorry Mommy, we have to make cookies."

McKay takes a drink of water from Papa and Nama's water cooler and says, "That's tremendous!"

McKay: "Uncle Buckskin, you're great!" (Uncle Buckskin = Justin Schow)

McKay is cuddled up close to Brenan on the floor after a game of mini-stick hockey.
Me: "McKay, do you love your daddy?"
McKay looks up at me and nods.
Me: "He's a pretty cool cat."
McKay: "He's a pretty cool BOBcat!"

sleeping beauty

This is what we usually find when we check on Evalyn while she's sleeping: arms spread out, face under blankie, usually making some kind of groaning sound.

Yag quotes

As I was getting ready for church one Sunday, McKay was with me in my room. He looked up and said, "Oooh..... a fancy lady!"

When Evalyn wakes from her nap and cries for me to come get her, McKay races for the stairs and says, "I need to get my Evalyn!" Then, when he gets to her crib side, he climbs up on the bottom rung and peeks over and asks "Are you sad, Evalyn?" Later, once Ev's up and happy he'll ask, "Did you have a good sleep tonight Ev?"

McKay hears some neighborhood kids screaming and playing outside. He runs to the window and exclaims "my friends are coming!"

McKay: "Jesus Christ loves you.. he loves me... all the children. Ya!"

McKay (randomly): "You remember all those people and all those animals?" No clue what he's recalling.

Auntie Mallory to Uncle Kam (her husband): "What kind of cheese do you want on your cheese steak? You want processed cheese?"
McKay, listening at the table: "I need processed cheese!!"

McKay's getting his 2 year molars and when I discovered one poppin through the gums I exclaimed "You're getting more teeth!"
McKay responds with "I'm getting more teeth.. I don't want skinny teeth."

McKay, sitting at the table eating mini marshmallows: "I'll flex my muscles."

Me, two weeks ago: "What do you want for Christmas, McKay?"
McKay: "Snacks.."
I asked the same question yesterday, McKay responded with: "Toys... and treats... I want toys and treats."
Guess I better stop asking, the list is getting longer.

Some more McKay-isms.

-McKay to me: "You remember me?"

-After a nap, I asked McKay if I could change his bum. He said, "Change my bum later.. change my bum on Saturday." That would be disastrous.

-McKay to Daddy while Daddy was showing him church history pictures in the Book of Mormon.
"Oh! My goodness! What's that?!"

-Me: "Do you want ice in your water?"
McKay: "I want apple juice... I want ice in it.. and tooties (aka cookies)."

-McKay watching me make stir-fry: "Oooh vegetables.. that's pretty awesome."

-Sitting at the breakfast table.. enjoying cinnamon toast with Daddy "It's a beautiful day, Daddy."

-Me: "McKay, should we go to BYU today?"
McKay: "Ya! BYU is perfect!"
Later that day:
Me: "Can you throw that (trash) in the garbage? It's by the toilet."
McKay: "Oh! The toilet... the toilet is perfect!"

-McKay: "Thank you for mommys, and daddys, and cockadooledoos... (no response from me)... I'm a silly boy... I'm a happy boy."

-McKay to Daddy while McKay was taking a tub: "Your hair is brutal? You need a haircut!" We do talk a lot about Daddy's brutal hair, and how he needs a haircut desperately.

-McKay looking at a picture of Brenan jumping in a river off a bridge: "Twinkle toes.. tinkerbell... jingle all the way." Quite the thought process.

-McKay will often (at least once a day for 10 min or so) head downstairs to 'go to work' with Dad. At one point while he was down there, Brenan got off his chair to grab something. McKay hopped up on Brenan's work chair at his desk, grabbed his computer mouse and said to Brenan when he walked back over to him: "I wanna work." Then, pointing to his toys on the floor he said, "You go play with toys!"

Conversations

McKay: "See mom? She (Ev) needs her smoother." (smoother aka pacifier, or as us Canadians call it, soother)

Me: "Your shirt is filthy"..(caked-on-guacamole)
McKay: "Huh... my shirt is perfect!"

McKay: "What are you making?"
Me: "Some dinner. What are you making, McKay?"
McKay: "I'm making some tomatoes!"

McKay calls Evalyn's exer-saucer the "applesaucer."

Tonight at dinner, McKay was having a melt down.
Me: "This is what happens when you don't nap during nap time. You need to sleep during nap time."
McKay: "Ya, I'm having a hard day, Mommy."

The 'wayermeyon'
(Yes, he can say his 't's and 'l's but he chooses not to when saying the word watermelon. And no, he didn't eat the whole thing, though I'm sure he would have liked to.)
The rice cereal mess...
in McKay's defense, he was just trying to help make Ev's rice cereal. He made a pretty good shot in the bowl the first time. Should have stopped there :)
The innocent face..
and... here is our future missionary, Elder Klain. Actually, two of them.

more of the Yago.

Brenan and I were just talking about a business that was 'not for profit.' McKay was listening at the table while eating his breakfast. Pretty soon he calls out 'follow the prophet!'

While listening to a musical number in church sung by 3 women, McKay points to the pulpit and asks me, "Who's that little boy?" Everyone is a 'little boy.'

One morning last week I walked into McKay's room since he was awake to bring him down for breakfast (I think he's scared of leaving his room on his own - and I'm not complaining about it!) When I walked in, he was sitting on his big boy bed with his blue blankie. I said "Mr. Miyagi!" and he responded "Snowboard!"

Lately when we call McKay by his name or any nickname we have for him he responds, "I'm not McKay! I'm Brenan Klain for the ward!" Explanation is that Brenan has to make a lot of phone calls for his calling and he always says, "Hi, this is Brenan Klain from the ward." Apparently McKay picked up on that one. Ha.

At cousin Nixon's baby blessing, Brenan was sitting with McKay and pointing to all the women (aunties, Grandma, Mommy) and asking, "Who's that special lady?" to which McKay would respond with the right name. A few minutes later McKay pointed to my sister-in-law's mother in law (if that makes sense) who McKay doesn't know very well and asked, "Who's that special lady?!"

McKay quotes

9/18/2011
Me: holding Evalyn on my hip in the kitchen while getting McKay some breakfast. (Evalyn is not making a sound.)
McKay: waiting for breakfast at the counter, head cocked to one side resting on his right fist. "Sooooo.... what's your deal, Evalyn?"

Me: Are you right handed or left handed?
McKay: Right (pointing his right index finger at me).
Me: Are you ambidextrous?
McKay: No. I'm 2!

While in Sacrament meeting today, Brenan was showing pictures to McKay in the Gospel Art Book. He was showing him Emma and Joseph Smith.
Brenan: Emma was Joseph's wife, just like Mommy is my wife.
McKay (after thinking for a minute): MY wife is Evalyn!

Randomly, out of the blue McKay says to Brenan "You're my daddy.... and you're my friend." So sweet. Golden parenting moment.

This is how McKay sings the song, I hope they call me on a mission: "I hope they call me on a missionary."

Just went on a walk, passed a back-hoe digging for a new home. McKay loves to point out the tractors. Today we were talking about the different sizes of tractors and McKay says, "I was born on a tractor." I certainly don't recall that event. Ha, no clue where he picked that line up.

toasted oats

So classic McKay. ALL DAY LONG he's pulling cereal out of the pantry and saying "I wann some!"

Can't get that box open and Momma's not helpin = distressed.
The meltdown.

Ev

Yes, we've got ourselves another thumb-sucker. Love it. I'm all about it. FYI: McKay only sucks his right thumb, Evalyn only sucks her left. Maybe she'll be a leftie?
Darling boots from la Shosho.
4.5 mos. Pure joy. Just want to smooch those cheeks right off of her.

Yago man.

9/13/2011
While changing McKay's diaper, I noticed he was getting a bit of a diaper rash. So, I pull out the Desitin and McKay says, "Look Mom! Toothpaste for my bum!"

Heading downstairs with McKay to organize garage sale stuff, he stops at the top of the stairs and says, "I want to bring another toy, Mom. (to play with in the basement).... I will come back soon!"

When he woke up from his nap, I found him sitting on the end of his big boy bed with a furrowed brow (aka the Brenan brow). He says, "I feel sad.. I feel sad on my big boy bed." And then he starts laughing.

9/16/2011
I peek into McKay's room since he's been in there for over 2 hours (to see if he was still napping). I see him like this: shirtless, 'Fox in Sox' tucked under one harm, holding his blue blankie while sucking his right thumb, behind the blinds watching the rain. He even stayed there long enough for me to run downstairs and grab the camera. After I snapped this pic, he fought his way out of the blinds to tell me "I'm just watching the rain, Mom. Just watching the rain."

(yes, in desperate need of a haircut)

more of McKay

Brenan: "What is your favorite?" (intentionally leaving that an open-ended question)
McKay: "Lesha."

A few minutes later, McKay walks up to Brenan sitting on the couch with Ev and says, "I want a spanking." (just for the record, we've never spanked McKay. He clearly does not understand what a spanking actually is)

McKay: "I want to go boating and skateboarding." (Is he his father's son or what?)

McKay quotes

Just sitting here at the counter with McKay after his nap. Here are a couple of his original one liners:

"Excuse me, Mommy. I burped on myself."

"I want dinner for breakfast... and lunch."

"Help me find the forest" (sung to the line of 'help me find the way' in the Primary song 'I am a child of God')

This is the closest mountain to Cardston: Chief Mountain. It's a big landmark for the area. Today, we were driving towards Chief Mountain/aka Old Chief, and pointed it out to McKay. He calls it 'Old Cheese.'

funny..

McKay saw this picture of some random guy on the back of a magazine kicking around the house. He said "Look Mommy! Joseph Smith!"

Ha, I guess it is the hairstyle?

conversations with McKay

Me (smelling a foul stench from McKay's general direction): McKay, did you poop?
McKay: ummm.. Maybe later...... I'm kinda busy right now.
Me: You're kinda busy right now? (never heard that one before)
McKay: Yes!

picture of recent haircut :)

McKay quote

Just got McKay up from his nap.. took him out of his crib (while holding Evalyn, quite a task). He turned to me and said "I need to talk to Bishop." Hmmmm... I think he hears Brenan talking to the Bishop quite a bit because of his calling. Pretty funny. We'll see if the Bishop has any appointment openings for Sunday.

Other things - had a Dr.s appointment today. Evalyn (2 mos) is weighing in at a whopping 14 lbs 10 oz. Ya, I'd say she's growing just fine. McKay told Dr. Freestone to "Peace out" when we left. It was a successful appointment.

Currently, McKay is throwing some of Evalyn's diapers in the garbage. He is having some troubles putting the lid back on the garbage and is now dragging the garbage lid across the kitchen. Just brought it to me and said, showing me the lid "Mommy, it's itty" (itty = icky)

I adore me's babies.

bread 'in the house'

We have some really great friends in our ward - Seth and Sarah Metcalf. He is a chef and she is a baker. She brought by this MOST DELICIOUS bread - obviously. McKay couldn't resist.

she's a lady...

Our blog needs to meet the newest Klain: baby Evalyn.

She sure is sweet and we are so happy to have her in our family. Currently she is in the swing, "singing" to me. Almost every breath out is a musical note of some sort. I'm hoping she has Auntie Lindsay's voice :)

Thanks to my wonderful friend Coleen Hauth (who is like 32 weeks pregnant with her 3rd child) - we got these great shots of Ev at 15 HOURS old! Can't possibly get closer to heaven than this:

You are loved, Evalyn.
